Frequently Asked Questions

Warm Weather Shipping Information.

We do not ship chocolate-containing products, except fudge, outside of New England between May 15th-September 15th.  We do not warrant against melting or chocolate bloom within this period, and we do not use cold packaging.

We will ship chocolate products within New England during this period to customers who are willing to accept the inherent risk of melting or bloom.  We can hold shipping for cooler days, and will not ship at the end of the week, to avoid prolonged time in transit.

*Chocolate Bloom/White marks on the surface of the candy

When tempered chocolate like ours undergoes changes in temperature that cause partial or complete melting, the cocoa butter in the chocolate rises to the surface of the chocolate, and appears as white spots or streaks.

While this compromises the appearance of the chocolate, it is still edible, and the flavor of the chocolate remains unaffected.  However, with severe cocoa butter bloom, you may notice a change in the consistency of the chocolate.

Please refer to our warm weather shipping policy above.

What is the shelf life of your candy?

Our Chocolate Squares, Chocolate Hearts and Chocolate Almond Squares have a shelf life of about one year (two years for plain dark chocolate squares and hearts).

Our Butternut Munch, Simply Munch, Almond Brittle, Fudge and Penuche have a shorter shelf life, and are best consumed one to two months after delivery. You can also freeze these products in an airtight container to increase the shelf life. Freezing may change the candy’s appearance slightly (especially with fudge), but it will not affect the taste. We suggest not to keep the candy for a long time once the box is opened.

Are your candies gluten-free?

In early 2016, we our entire product line was tested for the presence of gluten.  All products we offered at that time were found to be in compliance with the FDA regulations for gluten-free designation.

These products include:  Milk and Dark Chocolate Butter Nut Munch, Simply Munch, Milk and Dark Chocolate Squares, Milk and Dark Chocolate Hearts, Milk and Dark Chocolate Almond Squares, Chocolate Walnut Fudge, Chocolate Fudge, Maple Walnut Penuche, Chocolate Bars and Pops. and Almond Brittle.

Is your non-nut candy safe for persons with nut allergies?

For someone who has any allergy to nuts please know that our candy is produced in a facility that handles hazelnuts, almonds and walnuts. Although our milk and dark chocolate squares contain no nuts, we pump chocolate in the same area in which we make Chocolate Almond Squares. We also package both types of candy in the same area. Not wanting persons to take unnecessary risks, and for the sake of health and well-being, we strongly advise that if you have a nut allergy, you not purchase our candy products.

What is the cocoa content of your milk & dark chocolate?

The percentage of cacao solids in our milk chocolate is 32.7%. In our dark chocolate it is 54.5%.

Is your chocolate fair-trade chocolate?

We are very interested in fair trade, but thus far one area that has been appeared problematic for us is that the cocoa content for our products is too high and the volume provision cannot meet our needs at this time. We have more research to do in this respect. We purchase our chocolate from a company named Barry Callebaut which is a Belgian based company that also manufactures chocolate in the US & Canada. To the best of our knowledge the company has never been cited as a company that is associated with human rights violations. At the same time they care very much for the providers of cacao beans. You can review their philosophy and examine their philanthropy at www.barry-callebaut.com/csr . We are happy that your concern and desire to support third world farmers is important to you.
